A Drabble

KASHYK looked at the small figure in front of him.
"You lose, Kathryn. It would seem I hold all the aces. That is the correct expression, I believe."
Only, given the circumstances, it was hardly the most appropriate thing he could have said.
"Again?" he asked.
There was, of course, no answer. That was how he liked her: beaten and mute.
Of all the data downloaded from Voyager, this had proved the most rewarding. Better than coffee. Better even than music.
He had named the White Queen, Kathryn, and since then his game had improved enormously.
He always played black.
