What's in a Name? Well, quite a lot if you're using a search engine. But that wasn't my first consideration when naming this site. I wanted a name that would express something of what it meant to me.
The first name I chose was Tricia's Cyberhaven. I picked it in something of a hurry, but it did sum up how I felt about the place. It was too twee, though.
Before settling on Avons of The Heart, I toyed with Emain Ablach. This is an island paradise 'rich in apple trees' from Irish mythology. I discounted this; it would have given the wrong idea about the nature of the site. I shall be including a page or two on Celtic saints and Celtic mythology, but it's not a Celtic site as such. Besides - who can spell it???
Then, by process of association, I thought of Isle of Apples. I was really taken with this. I love apple trees and orchards. The problem is that it's another name for Avalon and a search for 'Isle of Apples' yielded innumerable pagan sites. Reluctantly I decided against it ... for now. Still, it made me think of a poem (things usually do) by Yeats.
When I was trying out domain names avonsoftheheart looked a bit odd and it was easy to transpose letters when typing fast. I thought of renaming the site Reverie (daydream), but the domain name was taken (they make toys, I think) so I chose reveuse (dreamer) as a domain name, and left the name of the site as it is. Don't be surprised if you arrive one day to find it's called something different. Hmmmm ... that has a nice ring to it: Welcome to Something Different.
