my garden

WELCOME to my garden. Here I have planted flowers and shrubs to gladden the mind and heart. All the poems and quotations you will find here have inspired or encouraged me in some way, and I hope you will find consolation or inspiration in your turn.

The garden has long been a metaphor for a place, not where the lazy or feckless can idle away their time, but one in which the mind and spirit can find repose before returning refreshed and newly-inspired to the difficulties and challenges of the world. This poem, one of my favourites, by the seventeenth-century poet, Andrew Marvell, expresses this idea to perfection.

This is very much a work in progress, so keep calling back.
