In its early days, this site was ornamented by wonderful graphics from some very talented people. I have since replaced almost all with my own creations. I can't claim that they're particularly brilliant, but there is such a sense of satisfaction from having done it all myself.
All backgrounds, and any graphics not credited here, were created by me, using that most marvellous program, Paint Shop Pro (versions 5 and 7). Invaluable PSP tutorials are to be found at State of Entropy, where you can also download many indispensable filters. For details of the filters I used in creating some of my backgrounds, click here.
The faded backgrounds I use in some places, most notably on my title and introductory pages, are "all my own work", but I learned how to do them here. Kathy O has many other tutorials at her wonderful site.
For details of the various fonts I used in the creation of graphics, go to Fonts.
To ensure your graphics will be displayed as Nature, or at any rate, you intended, make use of this javascript browser-safe colour evaluation tool. For a chart you can save to your hard drive, go here and download this awesome chart and sampler.
The 'invisible gif' and html for use with sidebar backgrounds came from Enchanted Backgrounds; it is the best solution I have come across to the problem of text spilling onto the border.
The link banner on Trek Links and Janeway/Kashyk Fanfic Links was created by Devorephile for The Mark Harelik Fan Page, and is used by permission of the webmaster of the latter.
The chiclet and rainbow fills used in some of the graphics are from Pat's Web Graphics.
Up until the end of October 2004, the FTP program I used was the excellent Terrapin FTP. You can download it at the Terrapin homepage. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It has only one flaw as far as I am concerned: it doesn't work on a Mac (I am a recent convert) and they have no plans to bring out a Mac version. Watch this space.
Create Your First Web Page in a Weekend by Steven E Callihan started me off on my 'career' as a webmaster. As well as step-by-step tutorials, the book comes with a CD-ROM containing lots of goodies, including Paint Shop Pro and an FTP program.
You can download all the example graphic and Web page files used in the book from the author's site , where you can also order the book. The site has links to other resources, including graphics and fonts sites, and online tutorials.
The book that has since become my HTML Bible, and is responsible from my turning away from the primrose path of WYSIWYG editors is Elizabeth Castro's HTML for the World Wide Web. Check out Liz's website for more information.
